Discussion

We want our friends and family to be happy, not sad. But sometimes you can't make someone cheer up. Sometimes people go through things that just make them really sad. It doesn't mean you can't help. Sometimes just being with someone - even in silence - so they know they are not alone helps.

There's a bible verse - Romans 12:15: Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

We can be happy with our friends and family when they are happy. We can celebrate with them.

We can also be sad for them when they are sad. We might not be able to 'fix it', but we can let them know this: "You are not alone in your grief. I'm here as a friend."
